Our Approach to Canvas Gear
Outdoor gear should work quietly and reliably. We build ours to meet that standard.
Cheap gear falls apart. Expensive gear overcomplicates.
We make simple, functional gear that works.
I've worked in the outdoor industry for years - doing graphic design and product development for brands like Patagonia, Merrell, and Chaco. I learned what good gear looks like from the inside: thoughtful materials, clean construction, designs that solve actual problems instead of chasing trends. But I also saw how the industry tends to overcomplicate things or cut corners to hit a price point.
I'm not just designing this gear - I use it. I hunt and fly fish in Maine, and I know what it's like to need a chest pack that doesn't rattle, organizers that keep small gear accessible in cold weather, and canvas that can take a beating season after season. Every piece I make gets tested in the field before it's ever listed for sale.
Royal River Threadworks exists in what I call the authentic middle: gear that's built to last without the inflated price tags or over-the-top tactical aesthetic. Just canvas, solid construction, and designs that make sense for people who actually spend time outdoors.
Authentic Middle
Royal River Threadworks lives between mass-market gear that falls apart and overpriced tactical brands. We make sensible, functional gear for people who just want equipment that works. No hype, no tactical cosplay, no lifestyle markup.
Honest Craft
Every piece is sewn by hand in our southern Maine workshop from canvas that's served generations of hunters, anglers, and outdoor folk. No shortcuts, no assembly lines - just one maker, one machine, and careful attention to every stitch.
Built on Purpose
Authenticity over marketing. Function over flash. Honest work that speaks for itself. Royal River Threadworks gear is made by someone who uses it in the field, built to become part of your outdoor routine.
